Phi Beta Delta

Membership

As a member of Phi Beta Delta, you will have the opportunity to meet others who are active in international education. You will also be part of an organization that actively promotes international activities on campus and seeks to raise awareness within the campus community.

Phi Beta Delta is one of the few campus organizations in which both students and faculty/staff participate. Student members will have opportunities to meet informally with faculty and staff members who share their international interests. Such contacts can be important for students' studies and research, for international travel, and perhaps even for an eventual search for a position internationally.

We have three categories of members
  • international students who have demonstrated high scholastic achievement at their U.S. institution;
  • domestic students (including permanent resident non-citizens) who have demonstrated high scholastic achievement in the pursuit of academic studies abroad; and
  • distinguished faculty, staff, and visiting scholars involved in international endeavors such as teaching, administering exchange programs, conducting research, or providing services and programs to international students and scholars.

Membership is selective. Nominations are solicited each fall from current members and university administrators. Self-nominations are also accepted. Each person nominated receives an application form in the fall. Those applications received within the deadline are carefully reviewed by the membership committee and screened according to the membership eligibility requirements set forth in the by-laws of the organization. Applicants are notified of the committee's decision by mail. Those accepted into membership and who pay the one-time initiation fee ($45 for students, $50 for faculty, staff and scholars) are considered members for life. See Membership Dues for details.
