International Employee & Scholar Counsel and Support

The KU Permanent Residency (PR) Process for Employees

KU internally supports three types of employment-based PR processes. Routes other than those listed below can not be processed through KU International Programs (such as National Interest Waivers or Diversity Lottery applications). Supported routes include:

1. Labor Certification for KU Employees in Teaching Positions

This is the PR process used for all incoming tenure-track and tenured faculty members, as well as for all hires where formal teaching responsibilities are a part of the official university position description.

  • 2. Labor Certification for Non-Teaching KU Employees

This PR process is for KU employees in research and/or administrative positions that do not formally involve classroom teaching.

  • 3. Outstanding Researchers / Professors

Established researchers and professors may be eligible to apply for Outstanding Researcher/Professor status from Immigration. Eligibility is based on past outstanding accomplishments in the field of specialization. Immigration strictly defines the categories of scholarly involvement necessary for consideration.
